  • Exporting Subtitles with Transparent BG from FCP into PSD Sequence

    Hi All,

I’m trying to export Subtitles from FCP to a Photoshop Image Sequence.

I need the output to have transparent Background, but it keeps coming up as Black.

In the Canvas, I have tried the following combinations:

    1. RGB + Checkerboard 1
    2. Alpha + RGB + Checkerboard 1
    3. Alpha + Checkerboard 1

But in all the cases, the background keeps coming up in photoshop as Black.

    How should this be done?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

Here is a post I saved about exporting with an Alpha Channel (transparent BG) from FCP.

Subject: Re: Chroma Key without replacing background

After you pull the key, leave the sequence UNRENDERED on track 2 with nothing on track 1 (empty) and then Export > Quicktime Conversion. Change the format to ‘Quicktime Movie’ then hit the options button.

CLick the ‘Settings’ button in the video portion and keep the frame rate @ current change the compression type to Animation and be sure the depth says ‘MIllions of Colors+”. The plus (+) is an alpha channel. Click OK.

Change the audio settings to whatever is best for you (linear PCM, 48k, 24 bit). Click OK.

name the file, set a destination, then click save.

Matte’s quote from JG will get you quite far but I’ve got to ask the question, “Why are doing this?” We’ve probably got a better workflow suggestion for you if you’ll explain your purpose in sending video stills of text from FCP to Photoshop.

    Thanks for replying.

We’ve got a subtitled project in FCP. The Lab has a D5 Tape of the Film without Subtitles. They need to write a D5 with the Subtitles that we have in FCP. They told us that if we gave them a Photoshop Image Sequence of the Subtitles with a Transparent BackGround, they would import and overlay them directly saving us cost.

In Matt’s post, he talks of Pulling the Key… Could you also explain how to do this/ where to look it up in the Manual. Also, I get the impression that he is referring to a Single Frame being Exported. I need to export a Photoshop Image Sequence.
