  • exporting SRT file from text layer

Someone provided me a subtitles translation (SRT format) file for my 1.5h film.
I imported the file into After Effects using the pt_ImportSubtitles script.
I discovered that whoever did the translation was a bit liberal with adjusting In and Out of when the text should pop on the screen so i spend 2h fixing it within AE.
Now i want to export that text layer from AE to SRT.
Googling for solution someone made a script to do it BUT it only works when each sub is on a different layer while all my subs are on one text layer.

Thus my question, can i split the text layer into separate layers? Or alternatively how could i export the text layer with timecodes to SRT file?

you can split layers pretty easily in ae… position the cti where you want to split the layer, then hit command-shift-d (osx) or ctrl-shift-d (windows) and it will duplicate the layer, splitting it at the cti.

i’m not sure how that will jive with how the script handled changing the text in the text layer, but assuming that it put in keyframes for the source text changes, i think it should work.
