    Dear All,

Am posing a question on behalf a production company I freelance camera
for. Hope you can help. Thanks in advance.

‘We are trying to get some specific Timecoded FCP edits off our edit suite via Firewire onto MiniDV & DVCAM using our Sony HVR-M15AE deck. I’ve done lots of research and it seems this may not be possible through Firewire – its this correct?’

That is correct, not possible via firewire. Used to be via DV, but not anymore. HDV was never intended to be a mastering format, so it doesn’t allow for this. You need a deck that can pre-stripe timecode, and then an RS-422 connection and an HD capture card…and I haven’t seen an HDV deck that allows for TC prestriping.
