  • Exporting Shape Layers to Illustrator?

    Hello all,

Apologies if this topic is somewhere else.

I’m not the best in Illustrator so I create most of my shapes/elements in After Effects and I’ve gotten pretty good at it and I was asked if I could bring it into Illustrator for some Graphic Designers to dissect it.

I was hoping it was as easy as a copy and paste but unfortunately its not. Is there a way (without plugins/scripts) to copy a shape layer and paste it into an artboard in Illustrator? I tried googling it but was unlucky in finding anything. Any insight would be awesome.

    Thanks again

    Adis,

Save the illustrator file. Just make sure each separate shape or vector you want to be seperate in AE is on a different layer in AI.
Open After Effects project or new composition.
    File>Import
    Select Illustrator file
On the import as dropdown menu make sure you choose “composition -retain layer sizes”
    That’s it.
Open imported composition and you have those assets.

    Enjoy!

I’m not too familiar with Illustrator, but here’s some info I found on the subject: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/26094582/export-after-effects-shape-into-illustrator-vector

I do know that a similar process works for copying from Illustrator to AE, so I would expect this to be correct.
