I did my first HDV proyect from a P2 camera shot at 24fps, I did all mt editing on FCP 6.02 and now I’m ready to go to make some Beta SP copies and some DVD’s but I need to downconvert since my converter just did DV through Firewire. Please let me know whats the turnaround to follow.

[Luiggi Berrios] “now I’m ready to go to make some Beta SP copies and some DVD’s”

For DVDs you don’t downconvert before encoding to MPEG2, the downconverting happens during the encoding process. If you’ve made DVDs before from SD video in FCP, just do it the same way, just make sure to choose the 16×9/letterbox in Compressor, which will create a DVD that displays 16×9 on a widescreen TV and letterboxed on a 4×3 TV.

As far as outputting to Betacam, you first need to tell us what card you using for that, Then, what type of beta tape are you making, 16×9 anamorphic, letterboxed, or centercut fullscreen?

Thanks david, I have a DA-MAX old converter from Promax and I want to output through it to a Betacam SP analog recorder. Since I have to export the HD 720P (24FPS) proyect from FCP to a normaol NTSC DV 720X480 proyect what is the turnaround to follow.

For exporting to betacam, open a new timeline and change the settings to SD 8-bit uncompressed. Now, copy everything on your HD timeline and paste that into the new timeline, making certian that you do not allow FCP to change the settings to match the footage. Now, you’ll need to resize every shot depending on if want to go letterboxed, anamorphic or centercut.

When your done with that you can export a DV copy from that timeline.
