[Martin Robbins] “When exporting the 1st draft of a video for a client to see, I set the data rate in FCP to 2000 generally, length of the video varying this slightly.

I was just wandering, if I were to send to Compressor and export via that, is there a way of setting the data rate?”
If you are talking about H264, yes, you can set it in Compressor, but go to compressor only if you need to change the size, de-interlace or change the time-base, otherwise QT Conversion will do the same job.

Whilst we’re on the topic, with newer software’s being constantly updated, and compressor starting to look a little archaic, is compressor still the best compression software to use (if hardware isn’t an option)? How does it compare in terms of things like quality and downscaling/upscaling to programs like mpeg streamclip?

Yeah it’s always to H264 @this stage. Where in compressor can I set the data rate to 2000?

In the Inspector > Video Setting.
Click on “Setting” to open the compression window and select Data rate limit.
    Set Keyframes AUTO and Multipass.
