Exporting Sequence Clips as Media Clips
Hello all,
I have a really long media clip. I’ve placed it in a timetime and cut it up into several named sub-clips. I was in a hurry so I edited a piece using the sub-clips. Now what I’d like to do is export the sequence clips as independant media clips and have them replace the sub-clips used in the timeline so I can get rid of the long capure I have in my bin.
Not sure of the best way to do this. I can use a batch export and import those clips but that doesn’t address the problem of replacing the clips used in the timeline. I have disconnected the sequence and reconnected it using the new Quicktime file. This works, but FCP see it as a sequence clips so when I double-click the file it opens up as a sequence.
Media Manager exports the files but ignore the naming and I have quite a few files.
So what to do? What is the best method for doing this type of capturing and then editing into clips instead of using Log & Capture to break down into clips?
I’m still working in FCP 4.5.

What I do when I break up a big clip is to drag all the new clips to the browser and tell FCP to make new media. It will make a new media for all those clips and you can safely throw the long clip away.

not if you select “Base Media File Names on: CLIP NAMES” in MM
but MM will export just the parts of the clips you have used plus whatever handle you;ve requested.
this may not match the duration of your subclips.if you use MM or Batch Export to export the subclips from hte browser,
there is no simple way to easily reconnect your sequence to those clips.
reconnect used file name to reconnect.oh, hang on, here’s an idea:
MM your sequence,
base media file names on CLIP NAMES.
request a new project.
you’ll get a sequence where the clips are truncated, and the file names reflect the clips namesALSO batch export your browser subs.
then reconnect your MM’ed sequence and direct it to the Batch Exported clips.
FCP will see the same names and reconnect.
you will get a warning saying the durations are different, but once FCP latches on to the Batch EX files, it will then reference TC, so all should be right.one problem will be if you have use the same sub more than once in the seq.
MM will create 2 files called “Clip Name” and “Clip Name 1”
you will have to connect those ones manually.what you need to do is not rush.
after you create your subs,
batch export them.nick

As another part of my previous answer, when you place your subclips in the brower highlight all the clips then control click on them and click the “make new media” in the menu. It will create the new media which you can put into a new bin folder.
