  • Exporting mp4. H.264 codec

    Hi guys,
I´m trying to export a sequence with the size 965 width and 530 height,
to an mp4 (h264), basic footage was mov.(1280×720).

I set up an composition wich has the size 965 width and 530, and when i try to put the desired size for the export in the media encoder, it always jumps from 965px wdith down to 964 width.

But i need to get the exact size, is this a codec problem of h264 ?

Btw. i´m using Prem. cs 5.5.

    Thanks for any advice.

    John

Are you trying to get 965 pixels wide because that is the requested delivery spec or for some other reason?

My first though is that is not divisible by 2 which would give you and extra , line, so to speak. Media encoder to the best of my knowledge will not allow this.

As far as I can tell, (I didn’t actually encode videos to test this, just played with the settings,)
the .mp4 encoder will not except frame widths not divisible by 2.

On the other hand, Quicktime H.264 appears to allow any frame width.

However, the Quicktime H.264 encoder isn’t very good, (at least in my experience with it.) I used to use it back with CS3, but the same settings in CS5 produced vastly poorer results. (Doubling the data rate was required to produce the same quality picture.) I gave up after that and switched to using MP4s. They may have fixed it since then.
