Im not sure why anyplace that has a system for video playback does not have quicktime installed on the machine.

There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.

She said she edited in FCE, which means Final Cut Express, I think FCE only works with consumer DV25 footage, isn’t that right, or am I thinking of old iMovie? So no DVCPRO50 or DVCproHD for her there…

In any case, my guess is she’s set her export wrong and is exporting a smaller lower resolution file, like a CIF sized avi or mov for youtube or something. That would explain an ugly, blocky-looking playback when scaled up to full size and projected, yuck…

I think if I don’t know exactly what the target machine is capable of, to cover my bases I would export a rendered movie as mpeg2 and burn a DVD of it; you can play that off a 30-dollar DVD player or, once imported to the hard drive, most any computer that’s less than five years old. It would help to troublehsoot if you document exacly the settings you are using when you render and export, and report back here. Smarter folks than I will soon have it figured out for you.
