Exporting Keyed Footage from After Effects
I shoot 1080i footage, 29.97 fps, with a handheld Sony HDR-SR11. But I am using a blue screen a lot and when I bring it into AE and key the blue screen out and then export it, the quality really takes a hit and the file size is huge!
So my question is: what is the best output settings for this? I’m obviously exporting RGB+Alpha channels and I have tried AVI and MOV but they create massive files – anywhere from 1-11 gigs for 1-2 minutes of footage!
I bring the footage into Premiere Pro after and finish the project there.
Using AE and PP CS5.5

If you’re transferring files from one application to another, you shouldn’t worry about the size of the files. Not losing any quality is of utmost importance. If you need to preserve an alpha channel, then the best choice is the PNG codec in a QuickTime container; it’s a lossless codec at the highest quality settings.
