Exporting Issue in 8.2.1
Our small local production house operates two Media 100 8.2.1 units on Mac G4s, and we’re experiencing a seemingly intractable issue with exporting from edit suite.
No matter what codecs we use in either AVI or Quicktime exports, we are experiencing interlacing artifacts on the output concurrent with any relatively quick horizontal motion of video or graphics in the frame. We can get clean output by exporting either Self-Contained Movies or By-Reference movies, but if we try to encode them to DVD directly they get the same interlacing artifact issues on the finished DVD.
With budgets frozen pending the upcoming DTV switch, installing third-party encoding software to work around this problem is not an option. The applications we do have available in addition to Media 100 are After Effects 5, Toast Lite v6, and iLife 3. Is there something we’re missing here, or is there just no way to accomplish a clean encode directly out of Media 100?

Are you working in 720 resolution? (720*576 or 720*486)? If not, there is not much you can do, except converting everything through AE.
What do you use for encoding/burning your discs? There seems not to be a real DVD app on your software list.Btw, where are you monitoring your DVDs? On a CRT video monitor or on a computer monitor? Computer displays and most TFT/Plasma screens cannot display interlaced footage, so you are expected to see interlacing problems.
Even if you are working in 720*486 NTSC, it could be possible that whatever you use for encoding does not transcode correctly to MPEG2/720*480. What you could try is to convert your 720*486 movie to 720*480 (cropping some lines at the bottom and top) in AE, e.g. into DV codec. Then burn a DVD from the cropped version. I always cannot remember how these NTSC field orders are, but make sure that you try to keep your fields correctly. If you want to have proper colors you also should add a Levels filter in AE, setting input black to 16 and input white to 235.
Or you get a copy of BitVice, which will take care of all the conversion/encoding for MPEG2.
