Hi everyone. After spending hours on searches and reading different posts, I’m still not sure I have found my answer. As news editors we don’t usually work in this format or using these export options.

We have edited material from HDV 60i that we are looking to export from Avis Xpress. I would like the best quality to work the video in Sorenson for encoding to internet files and also for bringing in to a DVD Authoring program.

Does anyone have a workflow to export HDV in a very good quality, including the detailed settings in the export windows to get the best video quality out of avid to work in Sorenson or to upload to Vimeo, or to go to DVD authoring?

I have seen posts to use DNxHD, Quicktime Ref (which we can’t do with long GOP), and every other possibility. Is there a consensus on this?

Thank you very much – From the looks of it, someone could make a lot of money by giving lessons on this – It would be worth a lot to me and many other people! Just name your price!

Hi just reading your post. I recently asked a similar question on here as I’ve been trying to find an answer. So far the best idea I can see is to export either an uncompressed QT or a HDV file and then encode it. Not sure if this is right, but it seems pointless to transcode to DNxHD to export a QTref, when it’s going to take up so much space and time. may as well just export the HDV file.

Did either of you ever discover a workflow that provided the quality for which you’d hoped?

I’ve been exporting from Avid to .m2t , then compress to mpeg-2 via Sorenson, but the result is junk (blurry and sometimes pixellated) no matter what settings I seem to choose).

    thanks in advance,
    Chris

I have been transcoding the entire project, then click on the transcoded timeline and export as QT Ref file to either DVDit or Sorenson.
