Can anyone recommend a nice intermediate setting to export my HD short so I can burn a DVD at the end of the day for my producer? I’ve tried DV and it looks terrible, H.264 takes hours… is there an inbetween that anyone is happy with? It’s an 8 and a half minute 1080i60 project and I’m working with FCP 5.1.4, and Studio Pro 3.

    Cheers,

    Pamela

Just export it from your Timeline using Current Settings (yes, leave it in HD) then use Compressor to create a 16:9 widescreen MPEG-2. It will create an SD MPEG-2 for you there instead of in FCP.

The quickest way to do this is to purchase a DVD Recorder and just play the timeline out in realtime via something like a Kona 3 card. Thats’ what we do here for client reviews.

I use Compressor directly out from FCP, choose a DVD/MPEG-2 preset, then in the Video drop down, chose “SD (Automatic)”, and I get great looking images with DVCPRO-HD.

I also get good results with droping my HD Sequence into an SD Sequence, rendering and exporting as a QT mov.

Just like Walter, we also use real time burners with nthe kona cards.
Pioneer (in my opinion) has the best quality RT encoders.

This is the one we use:

    Pioneer DVR-640H-SE
    PAL & NTSC
