    Hi
Need to some how get a half hour project from premiere pro2 into a quicktime file that protools le can handel. So far the only way is rendering out 4gig dv files then converting them in procoder to a little 320×240 quicktime.

    Any suggestions?

    Hello,

Do you mean export the video clip as a referance to go into Pro Tools LE or do you want to send the Audio from Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0?, as seperate audio ad re-create the audio from the timeline from Adobe Premeire Pro 2.0 with-in Pro Tools LE?

    Thanks,

    Leo

    Hi Leo
Yeah we want to get a copy of the vision into protools to do our sound to. We will use premiere to edit the vision with basic sounds. At the moment the only way we can do it is to render a 320 x 240 ultra low res quicktime from our highdef edit…..from premiere using its media encoder. That looks really bad but le wont except mutiple quicktime files…….. Very lame.

I guess for protools hd you must be able to have bigger and multiple video files….cause you see them mixing sound out to big plasma screens( in behind the scenes special features).

    thanks Miles

    Hello Miles,

Yes what you do is exactly what I do as well. Edit in Adobe Premeire Pro, then export the video clip as a small quicktime, then place this into Pro Tools, but I think you need a certain video card to be able to playout the video as you are playing back the track with video insert within Pro Tools LE.

I am looking for the same solution as you, I just found this on Digi Design’s website.

    https://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?navid=54&langid=100&categoryid=35&itemid=23437

It sounds like a graphics card or Canopus device should be able to putput clips. However I have not tested these.

I will test later on tomorrow. As I have a ATI card I think in the Pro Tools LE 002 system and I will see if I can output video to a screen.

    Thanks,

    Leo

    Hello Miles,

I tried from my Pro Tools LE 7 software and I can’t seem to get a output of the quicktime file to a monitor to preview as I edit. I do not see any setting to enable any output to a screen so I presume what I found on the knowledgebase only applies to running on a MAC workstation.

I will give Digidesign a call when they get back into the office to ask what support options are available. So video can be output to a nice size monitor for when you are editing audio.

    Thanks,

    Leo

    Hi Leo
I’ve heard that you can do a firewire out from protools out through through the camera/tv. But havent tested it.(we will so though)

What size quicktime(preview) do you generally use. We were told by the guys at musiclab in brisbane that the h264 codec is the way to go,to keep the file sizes down. The tests we have done look terrible in h264…we must be doing something wrong.

    thanks

    Hello Miles,

I will have to hook up a DV video camera and see if I can get an option to output via firewire as well.

I just use a low quality 320×240 Quicktime clip to keep the system low and not throttle processing the video on screen with the audio. I’ll check ou the Quicktime H264 from Adobe Premeire Pro Media Encoder and see how it comes out.

    Thanks,

    Leo

    Hi Leo
Just did a make movie (not adobe encoder) rener in h264 at 720×400 from hdmpeg project…Couldnt get it to work till I removed the 3rdparty motion blur filter…now it’s rendering fine. I set the compressor setting down to 30% to try to get the file smaller and hat still looks ok.

Hey Leo just looked on your profile that you have a Highpoint Rocket raid SATA 1640 does that plug into your second pcix graphics slot?…if so how does it perform? We were looking at either the sonnet fusion or the caldigit external sata boxes…… but I have never plugged anything into that 2nd slot and was wondering if it worked fine for cards other than graphics. We are currently using the onboard nvida raid.

Hey did another protols test in h264 did 720×400 (30%compression)quicktime half an hour long and its only 500mb. very cool.

    Hello Miles,

I can’t see to see the DV Output tab on the Pro Tools Digi 002 system with Pro Tools 7. I need to update, I was using the 1640 for the RAID for 4 Sata 150 drives. Howvever, I am now using the on board raid on the motherbaord of the ASUS A8N32-SLI DELUXE. I am looking into buying 4 sata 2 400gb drives for the 4 drive internal RAID 0.

But ultimately I was looking at the Sonnett box and card PCI-E. But I discovered it’s raid 0, I would like data protection and ability to capture 10 bit un-compressed 4:2:2 even though I wil be capturing 8-bit HD from the JVC HD100U.

Sounds great the compressions you have got the Quicktime movie file down to. Let me know how the external preview goes.

    Thanks,

    Leo

    Thanks,

    Leo
