Exporting from FCP for editing in Avid

If someone could help with this i would be eternally grateful!
I have filmed a job today on Sony EX3, i need to FTP the footage to Russia.
My plan was to bring the footage in to FCP 7 to trim some clips and delete those that were dud takes, and then export fro FCP to FTP it. Once in Russia they plan to edit it in Avid.
These are the settings they have requested
Audio codec MPEG AAC
Frequency sampling 48000 HzVideo codec H264-MPEG 4 AVC
1920×1080
frame rate 25
Planar 4:2:0 YUVI am having trouble though exporting from FCP and keeping 2 audio tracks which i need as one is natural sound whereas the other is a personal mic.
Can anyone help? THey are waiting on the footage in russia at the moment!

April 23, 2013 at 5:56 pmThe only way to have the audio pass-through while compressing the video is to take the source clips into Compressor. Set the video compression in there, and set audio to Passthrough. This means that you’ll have to Media manage the sequence with selects to COPY…make new copies…with no handles. And then take the resulting files into Compressor, apply the settings, and let it go.

Thanks for this. I have just tried to change the audio output sequence settings to dual mono, would this not keep the two tracks separate during export?
I am not great with Compressor, i seem to only have MPEG 1 and MPEG 2 settings in my settings options….

April 23, 2013 at 6:32 pmNo…H.264 is there. You can search for that in the search area for the compression…or look under the Quicktime 7 Streaming, or QT 7 download. That’s where H.264 is. Audio…they want it compressed to AAC, and still dual mono separate? So you can’t do passthrough then.
And yes, you’d export dual mono. Perhaps that will keep the audio tracks separate.

April 23, 2013 at 11:13 pmif you media manage as Shane suggests, then the sequence audio outputs are completely irrelevant.
it’s odd that you are being asked to convert the media to non-editable formats like H264 and AAC audio.
i guess they will re-transcode it on the other end?if your audio is 2 tracks only, then i think that you need to make it stereo and convert it as stereo,
than you have a chance of keeping your two tracks separate.as i say media manager will not change the audio in your files, just trim them of any excess.
so test your conversion to H264 & AAC audio before you go down this pathyou CAN change the audio format in FCP by dragging the clips into a timeline,
and making them stereo. (select all, Option L, CHECK YOUR PANNING!)you can cull the clips in the timeline, too.
then copy/ paste into a new bin, and do a batch export.
Export as QuickTime movies, same settings, USE IN TO OUTS to trim.(as you are going to convert all these files to H264 you could export as non-self contained. it’s a lot faster, but risky in the long run)
this will create new files with STEREO audio, which might convert to AAC better for you.

April 24, 2013 at 12:32 pmJust about any NLE can edit h264 these days. Just not FCP 7. They may transcode, but when you’re ftping ProRes or native files, ftp isn’t gonna work. FedEx might be a more viable option in that case.
I wouldn’t do dual mono. Just treat it as stereo. You’ve got 2 tracks. 1 and 2. L and R. If you do dual mono, pan one left and one right. Otherwise youll get them mixed together on the stereo output mixdown to h264.
But if you just treat them as stereo in the first place, track 1 will always come out left, and track 2 right. Make sure you export a stereo h264 and you’re good.
