  • Exporting from DCP makes colours too dark – DaVinci 18.1

Posted by Ricardo Dias on May 18, 2023 at 10:36 pm

    Hello

I’m trying to export a film project from its DCP file, with DaVinci 18.1. I’ve already changed Data Levels to full in the project settings, and automatic in export settings, but the export file is always too dark. I don’t understand why the color is being changed in this way. Any advice to fix it? Thank you!!

    Hey mate,
just making sure here, are you checking the DCP from a projector or from your display?
Also, please keep in mind that a projector will always make the image look a touch darker than a display, as you are looking at reflected, not emitted light. That is why you usually do a theatrical QC pass for DCPs

I’ve tried both. I’ve cross checked it with another export that has no credits or subtitles, and the file coming from the DCP is much darker. I’ve already tried the DCP file in a theater and the colors were right, so nothing to complain about. It’s just that it would be easier to make a low resolution version out of the DCP than putting together all credits and subtitles again..
