    Hi,
Just need to know what is the best way to export from FCP to PC in widescreen

Is there a way to export PAL widescreen square pixel i.e 1024×576. I need to get my head around this issue.

My editor is used to working at 16:9 – for tv, but the work i’m doing is for PCs

I’d be extremely grateful for an answer on how to do this in FCP.

    Best wishes,
    Nick Welch

What format is required for the PC – AVI? WMV? Quicktime? MPEG-2?

What format do you work with in FCP?

If your editor is used to working with 16:9 content then he should have no problem doing what you need.

    Hi Daniel,

    many thanks for responding.

I doon’t mind if the export is down in mov or avi PAL. normally the editor exports in MOV. However i just need to know that can he export a mov at 1024×576 (16:9) for PC…is there any rules for exporting for PC?. I will then compress movie using sorenson squeeze.

    kind r

There are no rules as such. Most PC’s have Quicktime installed these days. Make sure that you are using a CODEC that is available in the PC version of Quicktime. For example you couldn’t use ProRes or DVCPROHD. I’d suggest PhotoJPEG at 76% quality, or above.

Why do you think you need it in square pixels? There are very few square pixel formats for SD, and those few are outside of the rec 601 broadcast spec.

Exporting for a PC does not require square pixels. For all QT movies playback aspect can be controlled by hitting Command-J, Video Track, Visual Settings.

“For all QT movies playback aspect can be controlled by hitting Command-J, Video Track, Visual Settings”.

Only if you have QT Pro.
