Exporting for DVD
Hey there. It’s been years since I’ve had to export for DVD. I’ve got a sequence, 60 mins, thats 1920×1080.
I know the fastest export here is to just do current settings, but is there an alternative to this? Something that works as fast but gives a smaller file size. I was trying to export this to a hard drive with 70gbs on it and apparently that wasn’t enough room.

Assuming you’re working in FCP7? You could try making a more compressed mpeg3 in Compressor first, or shrinking the file size in MPEG Streamclip first. Changing audio from stereo to mono will save a little bit of space. Usually not enough to make or break, except when you’re on the very edge of capacity. You could also buy 2-layer blank media.

If you use DVD Studio Pro and Compressor…just export a REFERENCE QT, that’ll be very small and point to the media on your media drive. Then take that into Compressor to Compress for DVD, and then author with DVD SP.
Throw out that REF QT when you are done. It’s job will be complete.
