  • Exporting Event XML Doesn’t Work

Posted by Adam Helwig on May 25, 2012 at 3:58 pm

Here’s the deal. I’m trying to export an XML of an event. The reason I’m trying to do this is because the event has a yellow exclamation point like something is wrong, but I can’t figure out what’s causing the problem.

So, I decided to export an XML of the event so I could open it with a text editor to see if I can find anything wrong, but exporting the XML just gives me a Zero KB file. No data, nothing to open. Anyone know what the heck is going on??

    Thanks for any help!

Can you post a screen shot somewhere of this yellow exclamation point and where you’re seeing it?

It sounds as if your media is offline.

    All the best,

    Adam,

As Tom said the warning icon could be a sign for missing media, but you should be able to export an XML.

Have you tried to reconnect media? It should show you which media are missing or have bad formats.

I had a lot of trouble with multiclips which where synced incorrectly by FCPX. I did corrections manually and with the next launch of FCPX I got the caution sign and lost all synced audio (it was still there). Even worse was that they didn’t show up within the event anymore except a very few, while the XML showed about 190 (it’s always around this amount for a scene here)
Strange thing was that obviously all these errors where created by compound clips.

So you should describe carefully what you have done (within this event)

It’s saying I have two clips missing, however, they don’t show up in the event library and when I go to reconnect them, it says that it doesn’t match the original file, etc… I’m pretty sure something just went haywire with the event database.

I’ve fixed it by creating a new event and copying the clips from the bad event to the new event and it seems to have solved the issue. Although I still find it very strange that the exported XML was 0 KB and a blank file. Just one of those weird things I guess. Thanks for everyone’s help!

Could ist be that FCPx always needs media to be online for the XML export to work? So if the event has offline clips it cant’t export anything.

I’m guessing this because e.g. the 7toX software from Intelligent Design can’t create an XML for FCPx if the media is offline.

This is a guess as I haven’t had your problem yet.

    Best
    Carsten
