I have a question about whether it is possible to just export the effects created in AE to be used in AVID nitris, like say just to drop them on top of the video in the timeline, instead of having to export and have a loss of quality in the footage.

Nope. You can’t just export effects. You have to make a movie or still sequence. You can minimize the loss by rendering to the Animation codec or your Avid codec in AE.

i did not mean exporting effects only, what I meant was is it possible to export an effect sequence that was created with video but then to drop out the video and be able to have a file (mov, avi, whatever) that can be placed in the avid time line and be visible over my existing footage
