Exporting DV PAL 16×9 at highest quality and deinterlace
Hi,
I would appreciate if someone could advice on steps and settings for exporting an edit of a documentary from FCP 7 at the highest quality and de-interlace it for the color mix stage. The documentary is intended initially for film festivals and hopefully broadcast and DVD.
The footage has been shot on DV PAL Anamorphic (hence final dimensions should be 1024×765).
I have read FCP’s guide, forums and many articles online.
What I finally understand is that I should export as follows:
File > Export > Using Quicktime conversion
Video settings > Compression Type: DV-PAL > Frame rate: Current or 25 > Compressor quality: Best > Scan Mode: Interlaced (Since FCP does not a good job on this) > Aspect ratio: 16×9 (here?)
Video Size > Pal 720×576 16:9 (here too?) > Preserve aspect ratio: NO (no need?) > De-interlace: (Since FCP does not a good job on this)This works, when I open the file in quicktime with property inspector all details are OK. But the image doesn’t show side to side horizontally (on the left and right there is a 2 black pixels width vertical gap). Also, and I know i’ll be told off, when I export the same way but with Compression to NONE, looks like heaven, but I know the file size is impossibly BIG to work on, is this the only reason for not using NONE.
On the subject of De-interlacing, I have found on the internet the answer might be:
BorisFX or RevisionFX best for FCP
McBob (a script not for FCP no?) that uses motion compensation
Is there a plugin for FCP that uses motion compensation?I will leave it up till here, many thanks for your time,

If you are going Broadcast and DVD, keep standard PAL 720×576.
1024×576 Squared Pixels is for web download.Forget about “QT Conversion”.
If you have edited the PAL DV stuff on a PAL DV sequence, export a QT movie with the current settings:
Export > Quick Time Movie..rafael

Thanks for your reply.
I am exporting for color mix, so what you suggest is to export as 4:3 interlaced from Export > QTM? Not 16:9?
Whichever way, when I export through QTM as anamorphic or as current settings (like my sequence in FCP) the result in Quicktime property inspector shows the ACTUAL export as 1049×576, and when I try 4:3 the result shows 789×576.I appreciate any further comments, many thanks, Tomas.
