  • Exporting depth from C4D 9.6 to AAE7?

This is driving me crazy. I have searched this forum and others to find out how to export depthinformation from Cinema 4D 9.6 to AAE 7 and use the DOF in AAE. But I havent found anything helpfull on this issue. Can someone please enlighten me in a step by step instruction how to export depthinfo from c4d to be used in aae with the 3D Channel > DOF. Yes, I have done the rtfm thing. And I am not a newbie on c4d, neither on aae, so this is really embarrasing. But I cant solve this. Any advice or help is appreciated. Thanks!

Make sure you enable the front and back blur on the depth tab of the camera. Works without problems here. For ultimate control about your Z-buffer, you may want to consider this plugin:

Thanks, but that has nothing to do with my question. I would like to know how to export depthinfo from c4d and how to make it work with the 3D Chanel > Depth of Field filter.

Umm, you enable the camera depth parameter just as I said, find suitable ranges, choose RPF as image format and off you go (Z-depth is a default channel, so you don’t even need to activate it explicitly). Not much to it, really. In AE you only need to play with the parameters of the Depth of Field effect once you have applied it. Just make sure it’s the first effect on the layer.

As Mylenium sais RPF/RLA would be the best choice since you get the z-buffer within the file. I -think- you would only have to engage the backblur range on the Camera (I haven’t double checked that). You don’t have to set any Depth in render settings for this. What to think of when using RLA/RPF thou is that it doesn’t work using NET rendering. The internal .b3d format cannot carry the z-buffer over NET. I have asked Maxon and it is technically allmost impossible I’m afraid.
Another way is simply to multipass render and have the DepthChannel activated in PostEffects.

    Cheers
