  • Exporting clips from timeline to seperate files?

Posted by Andy Jordan on December 9, 2008 at 2:25 pm

Hi, I wasn’t able to find an answer to this- I have a sequence with a bunch of 5-10 second selects which I’d now like to be able to take to After Effects. How can I export at once all the clips in the timeline to seperate mov files for each clip?

You can’t do this in one shot. You need to set In / Out points for each clip and export.

The much easier way to do this is to invest in the Automatic Duck Pro Importer for After Effects. This will import an FCP timeline directly into After Effects and retain all the handles on the original media. You simply export an XML from FCP and use the Duck to bring that into After Effects.

There is an app called Crimson. It was made for Red Camera footage but basically does what you need, I think. Sorry I couldn’t tell you the exact button pushes but there is a demo version that’ll do 5 shots so you could see if it’ll work.

It separates a timeline into ‘cowboy intermediates’ which are suppose to be taken into Redcine but you could intercept them and go to AE….. I think…. I haven’t got AE so couldn’t tell you definitely.

    Hope it helps!

Or, instead of paying hundreds of bucks, why not try the free app “popcorn Island” that was mentioned in this post a while back https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/8/1012497 .

The new link for popcorn island is
    https://www.popcornisland.com/category/after-effects/
It seems to work with AE CS4.
Although it doesn’t seem to import any effects (dissolves etc) that you’ve done in your FCP sequencde…just the footage (and handles) plus audio
    But it’s free
