December 19, 2010 at 5:05 pmYes, you can export an EDL and re-capture.
You’ll loose any metadata (fx, audio levels, titles etc.)Moving the media is also possible, but you need to set the Reelname on every clip (can be done in batches though), as Avid does not import Reelname from QT clips (it does take TC nowadays.)
Another option would be Metacheater. But i don’t know how much time you have on your hands and how complicated your timeline is, but i would concider Automatic Duck.
If the price is to high, go to a posthouse that has it and let them do it for you. Will save time and headaches.Bouke

December 19, 2010 at 10:58 pmHmm.
My bad, i was thinking you wanted to go the other way.
Does not really make a difference, as the same limitations apply.
Although you can reconnect a bit easier using tools from my.
(see my site, look at FCPreconnect and QTchange)Nevertheless, it’s best you stick to Avid.
There is a full functional 30 day trial.
Now do not think you can LEARN avid in 30 days, it is a hell of a difficult application (although nowadyas my weapon of choice).
Hire an Avid editor, sit next to him and learn.
(or be prepared to do hard time study, it is NOT easy, bur worth learning)Bouke

December 20, 2010 at 7:55 amAn alternative approach I have used is EDL from AVID, relink to RED files in Color. It should work for other file based codecs as well.
This explains the way to make an EDl for that purpose –

January 12, 2011 at 12:47 amHow do you set the reelname on every clip in batches? Were you meaning you could do this in Avid or FCP? I just got a project back into FCP from an Avid editor and everything relinked, but about 10-20% of the project relinked but has relinked to a different part of the clip. I’m looking for a solution so I don’t have to manually recut those parts. Perhaps my problem comes from the reelname issue?
If it helps, we shot 5D which I believe labels all reels the same? 01?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide,
