So far, in all my projects, i’ve been exporting my FCP movies as Quicktime movie (self-contained, no compression). I noticed that saving and exporting as MPEG-2 takes hours. Am i not choosing the highest level of quality for my projects by saving as Quicktime movie?

    thanks,

    David

If you save as a Quicktime Movie, Self Contained using sequence settings, you are exporting at the highest quality you can.

MPEG-2 is HIGHLY compressed and complex, and that is why it takes so long to compress.

btw a “quicktime movie” can be anything from highly compressed to uncompressed. Quicktime is just the container, the quality depends on the compressor/codec you use to make the quicktime movie.

mpeg2 is the standard compression format that is used for DVD.
