Exporting an Alpha Channel
Hello,
I am working with a sequence that has the compression set to “none” and field dominance set to “lower (even)” in the sequence settings. I have a bit of text that needs to wipe on over picture, so I created the text in FCP and then keyframed “crop” located within the Motion tab to make it wipe.
When it wipes, I can see the interlacing lines on the text. So, in the sequence settings, I set the field dominance to “none” and this took care of the problem. However, my picture now looked terrible.
As a fix, I brought my text into a new sequence with compression set to “none” and field dominance set to “none” so I could export it and bring the quicktime back into the previous sequence with my picture.
I set the export settings to Animation, but apparently no Alpha channel was exported because there was black behind the text when I brought it back into the sequence with my picture.
Does anyone know how I can export an Alpha channel out of FCP that will work when I bring it back into FCP?
Or maybe there is another solution I am overlooking.

Not sure why you are exporting your FCP made Text into a movie, but have you selected under Options in your export;
Compression Type – Animation
Compressor Depth – Millions of Colors+The + is for your alpha
Now when you place your movie on top of video you should see it key thru

The trick to exporting from FCP with an alpha channel is export as animation millions+ and DO NOT RENDER YOUR CLIP. Export it unrendered. It should work.
