exporting .aaf to premiere cs5
Hey there,
I’ve finished editing a short film (25 min) using avid mc5 via
AMA. the camera i used was sony ex1r.
the clips were linked easily and so was the editing proccess (technical anyway),
I want to export the project to after effects via premiere, beacause after does’nt import .aaf .Now here is the problam..
I edited the movie in diffrent sequences, 7 seq all together, i made a roughcut to each seq, joined them into one seq and made a finecut.
When exporting individual seq as .aaf and importing in premiere cs5 it works fine.
When trying to export the finecut from the joined seq, premiere bugs out and wont import the seq, it gets stuck and throws me back to the desktop. I can go and finecut each seq and join them together in premiere but it will take me 5 more shifts.
If you have any idea how to solve this issue it will help me so much… thanks so much for your help.

Try this:
Transcode (or mix down) a small section of your AMA sequence to MXF, then try an AAF Export. Avid may not be exporting a fully compliant AAF when using AMA linked media.

thanx for the quick reply..
I did try it already and premiere imports the AAF easily but displays it as offline media.I think premiere doesnt know the mxf media of avid..
I’ll try it again anyway.If you have a different idea i’ll be happy to know.

As far as I know this doesn’t work with MC5 and CS5. I’ve tried it lots of different ways, searched through Adobe/Avid forums and found nobody else who can make it work either.
Whether it’s the new version of Avid or Adobe that’s at fault, I don’t know.

yup… its broken somehow. i’ve tried EVERY possible way to re-create that cool little workflow.
it looks like adobe won’t recognize something about the Avid codecs, works on audio … video stays offline.
the only time i did make it work on CS5 – MC5 is using a SD, DV project
hope someone fixes it…
