Exporting a transparent video from FCP to a website through flash
Hi,
I have a problem when trying to make a video clip transparent as an overlay on a website. I have searched all over but it will not work 🙁
Here is the how I’m doing:
1. Color Key the clip to remove the section in the clip that needs to be transparent ( Greenscreen ) – at this point my transparent part in the video seems black?!
2. Export the sequence using Quicktime conversion > FLV – the FLV export is using On2 VP6 codec and “encode alpha channel”
BTW I’m using FCP 7.01 and Flash CS3
I don’t know if I’m missing something here, but the video is as black in the “greenscreen” areas as it was before export.
Can anyone please explain what I’m doing wrong here? My boss is….ehm…..bossing me for a solution :/

Is your sequence set to a codec with the Alpha channel active (ie; Animations with “Millions +”)?

Yes – I have tried to export as QT, Animation, Color: millions+
I wonder if I need to do something inside FCP before exporting? -
I am exporting my movie as QT with the Animation codec and Color:millions+
I wonder if I need to do something in FCP before I export? Do I need to specify an Alpha channel on a separate V-track?

Nothing special to set, just the “Millions of Colors+”.
Should work like that, but I know of people have been unable to get it done; don’t know why.
Why don’t you export QT Movie? (no QT Conversion).

Ok – I have tried to export directly to QT ( not qt conversion )
Didn’t make a difference. I beleive that I have narrowed down the problem to be in the export from FCP.Is it not true that I have to modify the alpha type from “none” to “black” in order to get the black area transparent after export?

The “Alpha” option are for the stuff that you import.
On export FC only does “Strait Alpha”.
Your issue is something curious.
As I pointed out, one year ago or so, was some people unable to export from FC with Alpha.
I don’t know if was a bug from a certain FC version or what.
Can you post a snap shot of your time-line?

Make sure you DO NOT render your timeline or you will not get an alpha in your export.
If you render FCP is building a composite from the top down. If your backdground is empty you are compositing it with black
