  • Exporting a Still From Final Cut Pro (HDV 16:9)

Posted by Jason Aumount on February 7, 2007 at 12:19 am

I’ve searched some posts but have not found what I need. I have an HDV project that I need to grab some stills from, but when I export using Quicktime Conversion the resulting image is squeezed and not at 1440 X 1080.

How can I export a still frame at the correct ratio without taking it into Photoshop?

    Thanks,
    Jason

Yes it IS squeezed at 1440×1080. That’s the actual frame size of your image. FCP is stretching it out in realtime on your display.

If you want to export the image from FCP without it being stretched, put it into an 8bit Uncompressed 1080i timeline, then export the image.

Exporting via a Quicktime Conversion using the Still Image format shouldn’t be squashing your final image, you should be getting exactly what your Sequence is set to. When you click on it in the Finder, do the dimensions say 1440×1080?

1440×1080 is initially squashed horizontally unless viewed at a Square Pixel resolution. Try setting your sequence Pixel Aspect Ratio to Square and then try exporting Still Images.
