  • Exporting 2 Hours to Fit on a DVD

    Hey everyone,

I am currently trying to export a video that is basically 2 hours long (a little less) so that it can fit on a 4.7 GB DVD I have built in DVD Studio Pro. I am exporting out of Final Cut Studio 1. My menu is 200 MB large so that leaves me with 4.5 GB to fit the 2 hours of video and audio.

I really don’t know how to do this to make it fit. I am a editor but I have never had the need to export something this long. Any one know how?

Try Best Quality 2-pass VBR; 4.6 avg. & 6.0 max bit-rate with Dolby (AC3) audio.

Right. DVDSTP only convert the audio to PCM and two hours PCM means around 1.2 GBs.
As Steve and Chris points, use the Dolby preset from Compressor.
And if you are often doing this kind of long duration DVDs, you should have a look to some other applications that will yield a better picture than Compressor.

What do you mean by other program? What choices do I have in this?

    BitVice, CinemaCraft, Episode..
I have just bought BitVice. I havent had the chance yet in testing with long movies (there is where makes the big difference), but with the short MPG-2s that I have tested so far, the difference in picture quality compared with Compressor is noticeable. 450$
CinemaCraft is like a myth when talking about MPG-2 compression. Is the application used to put in DVD all the Hollywood movies. Until recently was available only for PS (2.000$). Now there is a version for Mac. Works like a plugin for Compressor. Compressor deals with the re-sizeing, de-interlacing or whatever, and CC makes the MPG-2 compression. Allows until 99 passes..The price is some 750$.
And abou Episode I can not tell you much. I’ve never tried but there are some people in the forum that they say its works also very well.
