  • Exported DVCPRO100 Quicktime experiences color desaturation

    Hello everyone,

I’m experiencing a problem, and I’m not quite sure what the source is.

I’m working on a series that was shot on a Panasonic HDX-900, and all of our footage was recorded to tape at 1080/60i over 24p. The footage was captured from the camera onto our system using the DVCPRO 100 1080/60i codec.

When the files are viewed in Quicktime they appear desaturated. When I load them into FCP they appear fine (as I remember viewing them while I was on set). Then, once an episode is finished and I export it as a DVCPRO100 1080/60i, the color is once again desaturated.

What is happing to the footage? Should I be using a different codec while I output it?

I more concerned about this because I want to make sure that any color correction that is done in FCP will actually show up on the exported episode.

If you need any more info than please let me know.

How are you monitoring your program in FCP?

I’m not quite sure what you mean by that. I assume it’s more in depth than just what kind of monitor set I have (two dell 24 inch monitors).

You should really be checking your work on a video monitor but, you have to enable the FCP Color check box in the QT prefs. In this video I was showing someone how to enable HIgh Quality, but you will notice that at the bottom of the pref window there’s the FCP Color Compatibility box:
