  • Exported Audio is shorter duration when brought back into FCP

Hi there, I am really at a loss and desperate for some help.

I have done this once before and it worked fine, but for some reason something is not working. I am setting up six tracks of audio, 2 stereo panned left and right, 2 music and effects left and right and 2 dialogue. When I did this before I mixed the sound as I wanted in FCP and then exported the tracks as I needed them, as AIFF’s.

I then brought the AIFF’s back into FCP, lined them up with the footage and all was good.

However, I have gone to do the same again and when I bring the audio back in the audio track is less in duration?

So, on my timeline the in and out points tell me the clip is 22minutes.
I export it as an AIFF and QT tells me the clip is 22minutes
When I bring it into FCP it tells me it is 21:58:15 and no longer matches my footage?

What is going on?!! All the footage has 48khz audio. I export it as 48Khz and I have checked the in and out points a million times.

I have so much to do and yet can’t get any further with this issue. Please, can someone help?!

    double check your sequence pre-set

if the frame rate does not match your working sequence, you can have sync issues importing audio.

    Hey Nick,

Yep, my sequences are 25fps and my footage is the same…?

in your A/V settings, do you have a 25fps sequence checked as the pre-set?

In the Audio/Video settings I have HDV 1080i50 preset, which is 25fps…

sorry, then i am at a bit of a loss, too.

    a clarification:
are you exports cut short, or are they playing out of sync?
if cut short, try adding some slug to the end of the track and re-export.

    do you need AIFFs?
can you export as quicktime movie, current settings. audio only?

have you tried copying your timeline into a new sequence and trying the export from there?
