  • export WITHOUT embedded metadata

Posted by Kevin Dennis on March 29, 2010 at 8:06 pm

I have an Online Video On Demand client who uses flv format for their videos.
They are somehow utilizing metadata within the file to control the video through their Flash player.
The problem is that Adobe Media Encoder embeds it own XMP metadata into the files it renders.
Now I know there is an option to “import SOURCE metadata” meaning that it would pull the metadat from your source files and add that to the metadata of the new file but even with this option unchecked it still embedded some of its own metadata.
This extra metadata somehow messes up their player.

    So bottom line.
Is there any way to export a FLV out of Adobe Media Encoder with ANY extra metadata?

    Thanks in advance,
    Kevin

At export time, check inside the Adobe Media Encoder window. You’ll see a contextual menu on the right middle side of the window. You can uncheck export XMP data from there.

    Vince,
Thanks for your response but that check box actually reads “Include Source XMP Metadata”.
Deselecting it only prevents AME from ALSO including any metadata from your source files, but it still embeds it own metadata based on the setting of the new/output file.

Believe me I thought I had it figured out when I found that little button too.

    Keep’em coming.

If you need it all out and you are on Win 7, you can right click the file > Properties > details. You’ll see remove properties and personal info at the bottom. Not sure what the options were on previous OS, but you may have to do that manually.

There is also a preference entry under media to write XMP data on import, try unchecking those.

    Hey Vince,
Thanks again… Tried the Windows 7 thing before… didn’t help.
But the Preferences setting is a new one, trying that now.
    Will let you know.

    Vince,
Turned off the XMP Preference setting still no luck!
    Very frustrating.

I don’t know if you have a HEX editor on your system. I know I didn’t before all this crap started, but if you do you can open a flv file with it and see all the embedded data…there’s tons of it.

If you care to give it a look see. You can download one for yourself here.

    Thanks again for trying.

Yes, it’s a mess, and obviously some of it is needed. It’s obviously a bug on their side however. Here’s a last attempt link 🙂

I will give The FLV Meta Data Injector a try but just reading that webpage gave me a little more insight as to what might be going on.

    Thanks again
