  • Export using current settings is different from original?

Posted by David Roth weiss on January 30, 2007 at 5:43 pm

I’m cutting a project that is standard DV and all seting are correct, I’ve checked everything, and everything is perfect. However when I export using current settings, the exported QT file is displaying a distorted image in which the people all have fat heads. It seems as if QT is somehow changing the pixel aspect upon export, even though current settings is selecetd. Is there a QT prefs I suddenly need to trash? Or something else that could be causing an issue like this suddenly?

    TIA,
    DRW

Are you watching this movie in quicktime? Is it not converting it to square pixels for you on your computer display? Open the movie in QT and hit Command-I to show you the display properties, it should be displaying @ 640×480).

Are you sure you don’t have an anamorphic tick box checked somewhere?

    Jeremy,

It appears that the client captured this stuff at 640×480 instead of 720×480 using FCE. If so, then am I correct that FCP is expecting it to be 720×480 and distorting it accordingly? And, if so, should I just copy everthing over to a new timeline with 640×480 settings and go from there?

    THNX,

I would distort the 640 stuff to 720 (effectively changing from square to non square) and then edit. That way you can monitor in real time.

    Jeremy,

Thanks for your help… Yes, I’ve realized its a bit more complicated than I had suspected. Since the client needs a web version quickly I am outputting a version that I eyeball matched, setting distortion at 13. Its not full frame, but does look not look distorted. I’ve never been certain what precisely the numbers mean when using distort in the motion settings. Is there a precise setting that would work in this case, or is the eyeball method the only way?

    THNX again,
    DRW

Can you change the pixel aspect in the browser from square to non square?
