    Hello all.

I am working on a 30 second commercial, built entirely in AE 7.0 on PC for broadcast. My system is only DV/firewire capable however, so I intend to render out uncompressed, put it on a firewire drive and take it to an uncompressed system to send out to either Betacam or DigiBeta.

The problem is that I’m on PC and all the studios around me are Mac. So I will render out to some form of Quicktime. But as AVI has a “uncompressed” option, I don’t see anything analogous to that in my QT output settings for AE.

Can anyone help me with the best way to get uncompressed material out of a PC and on to a Mac for broadcast? I was told 4:2:2 but I don’t see that as an output option. What about the QT Animation codec?

    Thanks in advance

    Chris

Unless you know what your destination sysytem is (Avid, etc) and have it’s codec installed (which you can do), your best bet is to set your QT codec to “None”. That’s the same as AVI’s uncompressed.

4:2:2 color sampling comes in when compression is used, so your output system should take care of that at that end. You may need to do a colorspace conversion first, though – check that with your output system user…

Thanks so much. It’s the “none” option I appear to need, just different jargon I guess.

I’ll explore installing the AVID codec as well, thanks for the tip.

    You’re welcome.

You can find the Avid codecs here:
