I am doing some aspect ratio conversions of letterboxed movie’s etc.
So I capture uncompressed in FCP from the digibeta master via SDI and adjust the aspect accordingly. It all plays realtime with the motion+distort adjustments applied.

But when I want to use deck control to output to tape FCP wants 6 hours to render when it doesn’t need to as it plays real time!

So what I have to do is manually edit on the digibeta and spacebar play the timeline; thus NO timecode accurate output which I have to live with.

Surely there is a way to tell FCP to NOT render and allow me to output as required. Anyone know the secret?

So you want to output your video to digibeta at a lower quality than full resolution? because right now, with your RT settings, FCP is playing the cut out to you for you to work with it and see what it looks like. But it is NOT at full quality…it is playing back at a lower resolution. So if you want the lower resolution when you output to digibeta (seems silly) then all you can di is crash record. But if you want full quality as you master to digitbeta, then you’ll need to render.

Why would you want to not output full quality when you master your project?
