    I’ve been exporting for iPhone so far via Export to iPhone (m4v) automated setting and was happy with the quality,
    but movies look squeezed.

    What would be best way to achieve 16:9 ratio with maintaining quality?

    Anyone has any experience with this?

    I like to use Compressor. I has a great pre-set. Go to the Settings tab in the bottom left corner and open the Apple, Apple Devices folder. Choose H.264 for iPod video and iPhone 640×480. It works great. Best of luck.
