  • Export to Deck Premiere Pro 1.5 timing problem

Posted by Felix Dames on June 10, 2005 at 2:38 pm

When I try to export to deck in INSERT mode (Sony digitalBeta via SDI & RS-422 Remote) in PremierePro1.5 I get timing problems allthough the InPoint offset is set correctly so that the first frame is where it should be on the deck (digitalBeta) but the duration of my video is not always the same! My OutPoint on the Deck varies about 3-5 frames or more!!! Edits/cuts in my sequence are not sync! the timecode of my premiere timeline/sequence is not like the one on the deck – Edits varies more than 3-7 frames !!! It is like Premiere slows and speeds up randomly. The next strange thing is that the last frame of my video (the outpoint on the deck) kills a frame on the timecode of the deck allthough I am outputting in INSERT mode. That is normally not possible! When I manually overwrite that timecode break/hole with the digitalBeta in INSERT mode the missing frame is back and the timecode is fine again!?!
When I use the “BMD Deck Control” everything works fine frame by frame is sync and the timecode is ok!

    Is this a problem of PremierePro1.5 ?

This working process is really bad because I first have to export the whole project to QuickTime uncommpressed (which is a waste of drive space) to play it out with “BMD Deck Control” and it reduces my possibly length of a project.
My 80min ONLINE quality in SD get reduced to 40min!!!

    additional info:
My decklink card & the digital Beta deck are synced/locked by a blackburst generator to genlockInput of the card and the reference input of the deck like all our post-equipment!
The problem also exists when the card is connected directly to deck with or without blackburst signal.

    My System:
    Dual Xeon 3,4Ghz 2Mb Cache
    WinXP Professional
    Chipset Intel 7525
2GB RAM DualChannel 400Mhz ECC Registered
    Adaptec SCSI320 Raid 0 with 130GB 10.000 U/min (250frames/sec in SD quality)
    3x 100Mhz PCI X 64bit Slot
    BMD Decklink Pro Driver v4.8.1

the disc was allmost empty 90% free
    don’t understand your question ?!?
this should have nothing to do how full or empty the disc is its scsi320 Raid 0
with 10000 UPM – should be fast enough for everything in SD quality and it’s working fine with the BMD deck control software!!!

I have found that IO-problems are very often the source of this type of problem.
As soon as your disks fill up to about 80%, speed of your disks drops very fast, even on 15.000 RPM SCSI disks in raid!
Please note that using BMD Deck Control plays a single file, and premiere has to play a timeline, e.g. different files, different effects etc…

Anyone try Pipeline Digital’s Pro VTR control? It has always worked in the past.
