    Hi:

I have been using Premier Pro 2.0 for a few years now and I’ve never come across this problem before:

I have about 2 hours of video ready to export from Premier. I want to use it in Encore where I will add the menus. I have always preferred to export out of Premier into .avi and allow Encore to automatically adjust the bit-rate during transcoding so I get the best quality for the size of the DVD media, which in this case will be Dual Layer.

I have tried the export process a few times now, and Premier is telling me the file will be 562 GB (not MB!) and that it will take approx. 2 days to finish the export!!!

I’m used to getting big .avi files, and I’m used to it taking awhile for them to go through the export process..but NOTHING ever close to what I am seeing here, and I have done several two-hour projects in the past. The only thing unique about this project is that it is in widescreen 16 x 9 (not Hi-Def) whereas all my previous projects were 4 x 3, but I can’t imagine that as the explanation for how huge this file is going to be and/or how long its going to take to export it. I am thinking somehow I have the settings screwed up but I don’t know how that happened. I am looking for the highest quality .avi to use before transcoding of course. This on a WINXP system if that helps.

Never seen anything like this before!

    Thanks,

    Dave

A 2 hours export to AVI with compression set to none would be about 200 GBs. The export time really depends on how fast your computer is and how many effects you have in there.

Which is the proper Codec to select? Microsoft AVI or DV AVI? I tried it again with DV AVI and it went much faster. But the quality doesn’t seem to be as good. I am wondering if I accidentally reset the codec and now I can’t find the right one to use…

    Thanks,

    Dave

If you are using CS4 then just send the ppro timeline to Encore, it will work out the Compression for you with the Dynamic Linked Timeline Direct from PPro. Save you rendering to AVI time and assure best quality. This is how you can bring across all the chapter markers also.

Thanks, but I’m using CS2. So I need to figure out the right settings to export to .avi which works better with Encore CS2.
