  • Export ‘Still Image’ broken in 6.0.2 (?)

Posted by Martin Phillips on November 22, 2007 at 1:23 pm

I have designed DVD menus in FCP for a good long time. Find it more stable on the flicker front than Photoshop. Anyway, have just done another menu, the usual way (just put the software update on … grrr) and I can’t seem to output a clean still like before. I have tried all the different formats and changing fonts but I am getting a very poor quality still coming out every time. Very pixelated and rough.

Done the usual trashing of prefs, but kinda stopped in my tracks as doing the export was second nature and had it all down to a pretty swift art!

So anyone else found the same? (BTW still on Tiger) …… any suggestions?

    Thanks, Martin.

    Found Workaround:

Export the graphic from FCP as a self contained movie (5secs or so). Then open in QuickTime Pro. Use the Export as Picture command. Works fine. Odd that this doesn’t work in FCP.

Well something to look at for 6.0.3 Apple!

    Cheers, Martin.

    Works for me on Leopard.

    All the best,

    Martin,

I just tried out the standard still export method from FCP using QT conversion, and it worked like a charm with no pixelating or any other issues. I’m running 6.0.2. and Tiger just like you. You must have a gremlin in your system…

I have the exact same problem as Martin.

I have exported still images for years without any problem.

Ever since I upgraded to 6.02 they all come out blotchy (no matter what type (jpg, png, tif) I choose.

I have been searching everywhere for a solution without any luck.

This is incredibly frustrating as I need to export a lot of stills.

I did a little more experimenting and something strange is happening.

I select a still in my timeline and it looks perfect in the canvas.

I then select File – Export Using QuickTime Conversion

As soon as I select that menu, the image in the canvas gets all blotchy, even before I make my selection. As soon as the menu goes away, the image in the canvas returns to normal.

Anyone have, any thoughts on what to try next?

    Chris
