I have been working with some video in Photoshop CS5.5 and I’d like to be able to export/save one channel of the video file. So, for instance, I’d like video (or image sequence) of just the red channel.

Calculations or Apply Image will allow me to modify ONE frame. How do I change all frames or just export a red channel?

I never tried this, but what happens if you turn-off the green & blue channels and then export?

Thanks for the response, but the world of Photoshop is not that easy. Turning on/off channels does not impact the output.

Multiply the video by a 100% red color layer to get only the red channel.

You could also do that with layer styles.

Also there’s the Channel Mixer adjustment layer. That would give you even more flexibility.

Thanks, Darby for several solutions. I guess I wasn’t specific enough. I really want to be able to save an image sequence of a given channel in any color space… so maybe a sequence of the K channel from CMYK, for instance.

Did you try the Channel Mixer? That should work in CMYK.

Alternatively you can fill a layer with 100% K and set it to the Linear Dodge (Add) mode.

Channel Mixer seems to only work for the current frame and is grayed out for smart objects.

But the “fill layer with 100% K set to the Linear Dodge” seems to work for CMYK.

How about a brainstorm for Lab color?

    Channel Mixer Adjustment Layer?

Levels Adjustment Layer, set the Output White to ‘0’ for any channel you don’t need. Come to think of it that should work for any of the situations you’ve mentioned thus far.

    Darby,

A levels adjustment layer with both output boxes set to 126 actually provides the solution in every scenario I’ve tried. Thanks for all your help.

BTW – I am working with some client video where they need contrast-enhancement using channels from different color spaces. Very interesting concept that I’ve used for stills, but never tried with video.
