  • Export quicktime to multiple audio tracks?

Posted by Daniel Frome on October 24, 2010 at 3:58 pm

    Hi there –

FCP editor here who is loving the new PPro CS5 and is trying to convince my studio to do our next show on it.

I’m having trouble with one particular audio situation and so far all the help documents I’ve read aren’t giving me an answer:

I’m trying to export a quicktime file with multiple audio tracks. For example: track 1 is a stereo track with all the camera audio, while track 2 is a stereo track with Music & effects. This would create a similar situation of a TV show dumped to tape with channels 1&2 program audio, and channel 3&4 Music and Effects.

My assumed path would be to create 2 submixes: 1 “camera” and 2 “music & Effects.” I was then hoping to export a quicktime with each sub mix as a separate audio track inside the exported quicktime. Is this correct?

Can anyone help an old man out? 😉

At this point in time, Premiere Pro cannot do what you wish. I forwarded your request to the Premiere Pro engineering team so they know about your issue. If possible, can you submit a feature request for this, as well? Squeaky wheel gets the grease, you know?

You can file a feature request here: https://www.adobe.com/go/wish . More on how to give feedback: https://bit.ly/93d6NF

    Hey Daniel….

could you use OMF as a path to get where you want to go?

Already submitted this feature request — so your extra nagging definitely can’t hurt 🙂 Thanks for your help.

No, an OMF will not do the trick.

The key is to create a quicktime with multiple stereo tracks. This enables us to create 1 quicktime file with separated audio elements, and distribute the file to various departments of our studio who all have different sound requirements. There’s lots of other cases where we use this feature (which is possible with FCP).
