    Export Quicktime Movie

    Hello,

    I have an Apple ProRes 4444 file coming straight from an Arri Alexa which is 235MB with a Data Rate of about 409 mbits/s.
    If I import that file into FCP 7, drop it into a sequence that matches the source settings, and simply re-export it (as Quicktime Movie, NOT using Quicktime Conversion), using same as source settings, the exported file is now 176MB with a Data Rate of about 306 mbits/s! (25% smaller and lower)

    Why is FCP compressing so much when I choose to export with exactly the same settings as the source?
    Shouldn’t the exported file have the same size and same Data Rate as the original file?

    Audio perhaps? Your export is likely stereo and perhaps the camera was 8 tracks?

    Hi Bret,

    No the original source file has no audio at all.
    It’s only video.
