  • Export Quicktime Conversion

Posted by Robert Sundays on September 1, 2006 at 12:18 am

To go between platforms, because I do not have automatic duck, I would simply export an quicktime movie of whatever clip(s) were needed for the opposing platform, AE for instance. Animation compression. Millions of colors+ etc.

But for some reason, I’m assuming it’s due to the quicktime upgrade (7.1.2), I can NO LONGER EXPORT my files in their correct size i.e. 720×480. What happens now, is that quicktime conversion is changing the size. In the export box, it’ll read: 720×480 (640×480)!?!? Why is this happening and why can I not export said size or any other respective size i.e. 720×486 = 720×486 (

FILE – EXPORT – QUICKTIME CONVERSION

    OSX 10.4.7
    FCP 5.0.4
    QT 7.1.2

How do I export the intended size and/or get around this problem? Any ideas? Thanks guys.

You don’t have a problem don’t think. the 640X480 in the parens isn’t the size of the file. it’s the size of the display of it in QT… It accounts for the fact that DV doesn’t have square pixels, so it’s displayed as that instead of 720X480 I believe. But the file is still 720X480. When you import into AE.. doesn’t it report it as 720X480?

Also, you’ll find that exporting via QT Movie… and NOT QT conversion results in a better file… it doesn’t recompress it. When you export using QT conversion it does, and represents a digital generation loss.
