Export question
I would be very grateful for some advice about optimum export settings.
I am trying to export a master copy (MPEG2, 1440×1080, 1.33, 25fps) as an mp4 (H.264). I have experimented with the various export options (Apple TV 720/480, iPod Video Large/Small, PAL/NTSC). In each case I have used the default settings except for the PAL exports where I have adjusted the frame dimensions to equal that of the NTSC exports).
I’ve had mixed results and have tested the outputs on a number of different media players on both Windows Vista systems and a Mac OS X.
My mp4s seem to play best in VLC on both Windows and Mac but the audio is a frame or two out of sync. On Windows systems QuickTime and iTunes seem to have a fit, though the Mac has a more stable (though less than ideal) output.
The PAL seems better than the NTSC, I suppose because there are no frames being dropped.
I imagined Apple TV format exports would play in standard Apple software, or am I being naive?
I chose mp4 as it seems to be something that is widely playable, good quality and reasonable file size. Should I try a different format?
Or, do I need to fine tune the mp4 export settings – if so, how?
I’m using PPro CS4 and AME. A short NTSC test mp4 is here: https://tinyurl.com/c7awh3 and a PAL one here: https://tinyurl.com/clexdl.
Many thanks for any suggestions
