Export mpeg2 problem
Posted by Daniel on April 5, 2005 at 2:18 pmI want to export a project (5 min.) from Avid to mpeg2. Witch is the best way to do this loseless? If I need a encoder witch one is the best by quality (not encoding time)? Thanks to all future answers.

April 7, 2005 at 3:06 pmAs far as I know, there is no such thing as a “lossless” MPEG2 codec, as MPEG2 is a lossy compression format. I tend to either export MPEG2 directly from Symphony (when MPEG export is not broken, which it often is >:( ), or export either a Quicktime reference or uncompressed Quicktime movie which I take into Discreet Cleaner XL and encode to MPEG2 at whatever bitrate is appropriate for the job.
The highest quality MPEG2 encode you’re likely to get involves using a dedicated hardware encoder card, such as a Zapex card (obsolete), Blackmagic, etc. -

April 12, 2005 at 10:49 pmSo Cleaner XL can take in AVID QT Ref. clips and encode them? Is this faster???
I am tired of waiting 4 to 6 hours for 60 mins of AVID footage to export out as an MPEG 2!!!!

April 13, 2005 at 1:13 pmIt seems to be a bit faster to me, though I haven’t actually done a comparison.
