Hello everybody. Newbie here. I just completed my first 20 minute birthday video for a relative with great disappointment.
I used a canon hd camera. Picture was great while editing in premiere, but when I exported the movie and played back with windows media player the picture wasn’t even close to hd. Please help!!!! Is it something I’m doing wrong?

Dont know what you did…what were your export settings? What is the resolution of your source video? Is your export for local playback, web, DVD??

Sorry for the lack of information and I appreciate the response.
I shot the video on a canon xh-a1 hdv 24fps. The settings I used to download into premiere(source settings) are as follows:

    Editing mode: hdv 1080p
    Timebase: 25 frames
    Frame size 1440x 1080 16:9
pixel aspect ratio: HD anamorphic 1080
    Display format:25fps

    I exported as follows:

    Format: Mpeg-2
Preset: NTSC 23.976p Widescreen High quality
    Frame rate:23.9

Now I know that dvd’s arent HD quality but the resolution is blurry
and washed out. Anything I can do?? Please help.

You shot NTSC, you edited PAL and you exported NTSC. Why? That likely is the source of your problems.

Hey thanks for the quick response. I m new to HD not sure what settings to use maybe that’s why I chose PAL. How do you kno if it’s a pal setting? It doesn’t say it on the load preset menu. Which setting should I use? I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you again.

24p is typically NTSC NDF, 25p is PAL and 23.97p is NTSC DF. Keep the framerate exactly as you shot with the camera, so 24p from capture to export if NTSC, and 25p if PAL. Avoid conversions.
