Export & Media Managed files to external disk disappearing

Yep, it’ a weird one. Nothing in the trash.
I suspect it’s irresolvable, but anyway…

For the master exports, I just exported as sequence settings from FCP onto my external drive.

for the media managed project, I opened up media manager, selected the external drive as the destination, saved and recompressed to there.

Checked that they’d gone onto the drive in the facility – they had.

Checking back at home – they ain’t there.

Files usually just don’t disappear.

Are you sure the drive is formatted correctly?

Did you unplug it without ejecting first?

Are you sure you set that drive as the target? (I know, it sounds crazy)

The fact that you chose the word “recompressed” above tells me you may have encountered a case of “pilot error.” The task you’re doing typically involves the “Copy” function in Media Manager, which involves no recompression whatsoever.

The copy function copies all files to a single directory called “Media,” and creates a new project there as well. If I were you, I would type “Media” into spotlight to see if that directory is in fact somewhere on your external hard drive that you’re somehow missing.

There has been a colossal brainfart.

The MM project was already on my main edit drive and had been moved off my external. I’m pretty sure this is the first sign of my brain ceasing to function.

HA! It’s all good, that’s why it’s best to ask the obvious questions first. When the system won’t turn on, the first question should be, “Is it plugged in? I know it sounds crazy.”
