  • Export image without white background

Posted by Anthony Uccello on June 2, 2008 at 8:03 pm

    Hi,

I have extracted an image from the background and trimmed it. However, the trim still leaves a little box around my image (even though the background is gone i.e. there is a tiled background). However, when I save the image as a jpeg (or anything else) it still produces the background.

How can I export JUST the image without a white background? Thanks!

    Anthony

JPEGs do not support Alpha channels…

Make an alpha channel…. then save PICT, TIFF, or TGA

    Thanks for you reply,

Unfortunately, I still get the white background in TIFF and the other formats…

I am trying to make just an arrow so I can paste it in vegas pro video I am making, but I am trying to get rid of the white background…

Is there something I am missing about what you suggested? I created an alpha channel (and the image turned a bright red) and then I saved as a TIFF (and the other formats) but the quicktime viewer still shows a while background….

Did you even WATCH the video I posted…

you need to MAKE an ALpha Channel…. then save in a format that SUPPORTS alpha channel and INCLUDE it in your save.

Thank you for the video it was certainly informative…

Unfortunately I am still getting the white background…which raises the question of whether my programs support what I am trying to do.

When I open the tiff file I use quicktime viewer, and when I try to import the image into my video, I am using Sony Vegas. Are these programs not compatible with what I am trying to do?

    UPDATE!!!!!!!!

The issue was the formating. Sony Vegas cannot use TIFF…BUT, if you render as a PNG you do not get the background.

    Thanks for the help!

save it as a gif or png ether one will work without the background, if you save it as a jpeg it will leave a white background even if you started your project transparent.

Richard, the video won’t load. I have Flash 10.2 Is there another source for this video? Also does it address haloing?
    Thanks;
