    Hi.

    Thanks for reading.

RE: Maxon Cinema 4d Prime exporting 3d files to be used in After Effects CS5.5

Is there a way to embed the textures before exporting a .c4d, obj, .3ds .dae .kmz or .u3d to be put into Photoshop Extended then into AE?

    Details:
We have been sent 3d files from a client that are made in c4d prime
They are .c4d files and each has a folder w textures in it that go to that file. He has also tried sending .obj files without separate texture files.

We are using Photoshop CS5.1 and After Effects CS5.5

Want to animate what he sent me…3d perfume bottles and boxes
We have tried to do this 2 ways:

    1st Technique:
Import .c4d file Into After Effects via Photoshop:

We put in a plugin for photoshop from maxon’s site for .c4d files.
We put in 2 plugins for After Effects from maxons site – for importing .c4d files

    Outcome:
We bring the .c4d into photoshop – no textures show – but is nice 3d – i attach / link to the textures from the folder he sent. I see they are linked. Know they are links because when hovering over the items in the ps layers palette, one sees that image appear as a kind of quick view.

But textures dont show up in ps.
    Save as .psd

When importing those now psd images into AE from the psd file above, they just import again wo the textures

    2nd Technique:
    Straight into After effects:

If we just import the .c4d straight into AE, we only get this:
comp, and 1 frame, 1 layer comp w a camera in to, or however many cameras there are, that many layers in the comp.
    No image.

    What do you think?
    Any ideas suggestions?
    Warmly,
    Hope

I wouldn’t be working in PS at all for 3D in my experience it kind of sucks haha
What are you trying to do with all of this? animate in AE?
If you upgrade to CC, there’s a plug in with AE thats called Cineware and it’s a great tool to go back and forth with the files.
From there, I would have your object in C4D have the .psd so you can edit later… Is that what you’re wanting to do?

The 2nd technique here makes sense, why run around? ya know?
Tryout the new CC and the cineware plugin for AE, its really easy to use.
